Petit RCcultural Race – Mid Custom Special makes the A final

On this 15th of january was held the 2011 Petit RCcultural Race at Ardent Raceway, UK.

With a field of top international drivers growing each year, consisting of 9 out of 10 of the 2010 euros A finalist, most of the euros B finalists, Shin Adachi from Japan, there were 20 contenders for the all important 10 spots in the A final.

With a recent strings of excellent results in the UK, Craig Collinson was comfident of being able to make the A final with his Mid Custom Special. After a lot of setup work to get the most amount of steering possible from Staggered Ribs and a disappointing round 1, the desision was made to move to mini pins, like most of the other top drivers were running. With Fabien making the perfect call on setup changes, Craig was firmly in the A in round 2 until the last corner, when he hit a car that was on its roof only inches from the loop, and lost 3 seconds as he had to be marshalled. Round 3 didn’t go very well either, as backmarkers went in the way so it was going down to the last qualifiers. A perfect run from a very nervous Craig put him 10th on the grid, but with top drives like Ellis Stafford and Shin Adachi still to run, nothing was done. No one managed to improve enough to dislodge Craig from his spot in the A final however, sealing this awesome result for the MCS.

Starting 10th on the grid Craig took a very sensible approach in the opening lap but that didn’t pay off as the table top was always causing issues when racing closely. But he fought his way back in each final to get a 9th, then 7th then 9th in the three legs finals, and ended up 9th overall, an excellent result given the level of the competition.

Well done to Craig Collinson for this excellent result, which shows once again that the MCS is the best mid motor RB5 there is.
